I was curious to know, that if you reformatted a computer
which previously had Windows 2000 with XP, if you would
lose the applications previously installed on it. I just
learned a computer lab I am working on is switching to XP,
after I just reformatted with Windows 2000. I would like
to keep all of the previous applications on the machines,
but load the new operating system. Can I do this? Thanks.
Sincerely,
Cari

When you reformat a hard drive, all programs and files are wiped
clean. Afterward, you must install an "Operating System", such as
Windows XP, the reinstall your programs using the original program
installation CDs. Only an "Upgrade" procedure will prevent loss of
programs. In order to perform an upgrade over Windows 2000, you'll
need the "Retail Upgrade Version" of Windows XP Professional.

Ok just to clear up

DATA

DATA FORMATED

DATA ALLOCATION TABLE NOT AVAILABLE

NEW DATA CAN OVERWRITE OLD UNALLOCATED DATA

Ok as far as I'm aware you can migrate your OS from WIN
2000 to WIN XP. I am not certain if you can backpropogate
or reverse from XP to WIN 2000.

If you upgrade to XP from 2000 you are able to build ontop
keeping all the software and data as far as I'm aware
untouched where unrelated to the OS its kernel and such.

It should be an installation option as I may recall doing
this once and it was a fairly easy wizard guided process.

Thank you so much
