i have feformated many computers with the windows xp professional disk,now
have a windows xp professional with service pack 2 and it wont boot up the
same way as the old version,any help would be great thanks.

when select boot from cd with old version it starts format process and with
new version it wont.

ya it is a copy but so was the other version

In that case, it has not been copied properly.. a genuine XP CD will boot..
I suggest that you take it up with the CD supplier, and also ascertain the
legality of the copy too..
