Reformat HD & Reinstall

I have a friend with a HP computer and Windows XP Home. She has the complete
recovery disk set from HP. Her system has a severe virus problem and I'm
convinced the only way to correct it is to reformat the HD and reinstall
everything. Her computer will boot to CD and she can do a restore but is
unable to get out of the restore to format the HD. What is the correct
procedure? We would like to boot either to a floppy or cd and format the HD,
Then reboot and run the restore. Does any one know where I can find some
direction on doing this.

Thanks,
Don

Read the Manual. One of the Restore options is to return the system to
"factory fresh" status and that will reformat the drive.

Yes, we did see that option but it skipped the reformat and went directly to
restoring. I did find some instruction on the HP site on how to recover that
are different, we will try that.

Thanks,

Don
