Reformat C

Hi

I have am irresolvable problem with OE6 under XP Pro new installation. It
will not allow me to compact drives or add contacts. I have had lots of help
from the inetexporer.ie6_outlookexpress forum and various web sites. If I
create new identities OE6 falls over on start-up.

I have done a dozen repairs and two full reinstalls all to no avail. I
thought it best to clear the c drive by reformat but it will not let me
reformat. However, I used partition magic to convert the original 125gb
partition into 3 partitions and I notice it has a reformat C drive option.

But, I am nervous that if I use that it might make the system unusable. I
have all my data backed onto another drive and another computer.

Advice please.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to format the existing
C: Windows partition (preferably NTFS) and then install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

Sniglet: A sniglet is a word that should be in the dictionary but isn't.
(And "sniglet" doesn't appear in [most] dictionaries, either.)
Popularized by comic Rich Hall. Some techie sniglets can be found at

Not so lucky this time, although I did manage with 'slistress' and a few
others in my published works.

irresolvable: Adj. 1. not able to be resolved into parts or elements. 2.
not able to be solved; insoluble.

Mind you, I use British English.

Thank you very much, I will do it this week.

Check out

alt.language.english.spelling.reform

Also put 'unresolvable' into the OE6 or Word (2000) spell checker, I think
they are the same but Word lets use both US and UK English in both cases it
returns irresolvable.

If that is a problem then please post in
Microsoft.public.word.spelling.grammar.
