I want to wipe a disk that has 4 partitions made by Partition Magic and
reinstall Windows XP on a clean disk after a format.
I have previously tried to fdisk a drive with Partition Magic partitions and
had troubles getting rid of the logical drives(?)
For a reason I won't go into I cannot do the install without a reformat -
Cany anyone tell me the correct way - should I first
of all dlete the partitions in Partition Magic?

The Windows XP Setup Wizard that runs when you boot from the Windows XP
installation CD-ROM presents you with a completely effective disk-paritioning
segment in the early stages of set-up.

During this segment of the set-up process, you can remove and add disk
partitions and choose which partition to install Windows XP on.

Just boot from the CD-ROM, and when the Setup Wizard asks what partition you
want to install Windows on, select each partition that is present and press D to
Delete it. (One parition may require you to Press L and then D.) Once you have
deleted any partitions that you don't want anymore, you can then create new ones
as you see fit (of course, they must be larger than 8MB). If you're going to
have more than one partition, just delete all four of your old ones during the
Windows set-up disk-paritioning segment; then create one partition of whatever
size you've decided on. You can partitoin the rest of the hard-drive from
within Windows XP after setup is complete - using the Disk Management Console.

You do it as part of a reinstall of the system after booting the XP CD
direct. Enter Setup, and after the license agreement take New Install.
When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete all the
current partitions and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the next
stage
