Refillable printer brands and models

Hi,

I'm in the market for a new bubble jet or similar printer and want to
ensure that I buy a model that allows me to refill the cartridges.
I understand that some manufacturers put smart chips into their
cartridges to prevent refilling, so I'd like to steer clear of these
brands/models.

Any recommendations will be gladly received.

Cheers, Jim.

Canons that don't use chipped tanks are super easy to refill.
They are becoming harder to find and the prices are higher than
they used to be. Depending on your price range, you can spend
$150-300 but that extra expense is more than offset when you
take refilling savings into account.

I have ip4000R (wireless-enabled), which now can be bought for
~ $220. It's non-wireless equivalent is around $150:

Canons are identical for refill, regardless of chip or no chip: the
instructions for BCI-6 and CLI-8 are identical.

The main difference is what will happen with chipped cartridges: the
empty detection may be disabled.

I think you need to either buy old technology so you to not get the best
today and then you can be satisfied to risk clogging the printhead
prematurely, get more rapid fading and accept results that are not as
good as what the printer was designed to produce. Then you will be very
happy.

The main difference is that the new Chroma inks are under patent and the
relabelers have not figured out anything that is close to the formulae.
