Referring to Original Message

Sometimes I wish to see the original message that a "re" posting refers to.
Sometimes the message id is included in the message but when I click on it
to download the original message it can't be found. Sometimes the message id
is not within the message but I know that it is in the header.

Is there a way to see the original message in all cases without doing a
search on the subject? I am using OE.

Sure. Google for it. The messages are rolled off of the Microsoft News
Groups after a period of time. Google is forever - or so it seems.

Copy the message id (without the < > widgets) and paste it into the
last box on
http://groups-beta.google.com/advanced_search
then click "Lookup [sic] Message".

In your original message, you had this in the header:

Message-ID: <[email protected]>

If you punch that string above (the complete line) into Google's Groups
search, you'll find your article.

Try changing view from "unread messages" to "all messages." I like the
"unread view" to navigate through new posts easily but if interested in the
history of a topic, switch to "all messages." By doing so, I can go back
and read previous messages in the thread.

Also:
-Enable "group conversations" in OE's Options.
-May also want to uncheck the option to download 300 headers at a time.
This is a busy group and gets well over 300 posts in a single day.
Unchecking xx number of headers option will download all headers from the
group. It can take a while to complete this task if you have a slow
connection.

NOTE: There are some replies that are orphans - not attached to any threads
or the originals have aged to the point they have been dropped from the
server (no longer available). No change in settings will fix that.
