Reference - Authors

I am working on a book chapter that has a list of references (specific
authors, magazines, etc) at the end of the chapter. I need to cite the
specific references with superscripted numbers throughout the text but can't
remember how to link the author reference at the end with the specific
reference in the text. They need to be numbered 1-30 so an index, or table
of contents doesn't seem to work. CAN ANYONE HELP - PLEASE!

If the references need to be listed in order of citation, then use
endnotes and cross-references. If the references need to be listed in
alphabetical order by author, then use bookmarks and cross-references.

g-n-o has given you the general principles. For an alphabetized reference
list (which I think is what you're wanting), just create a numbered list
(using Word's auto numbering). You can then use Insert | Cross-reference
(Insert | Reference | Cross-reference in Word 2002 and 2003) to insert a
cross-reference to the paragraph number of the appropriate "numbered item."
Apply either superscript formatting or the Endnote Reference character style
to the cross-reference.
