Don't the numbers in that article place Comcast as the #1 ISP? It might
have a lot of spammers but you are probably #1 of them all!

I am using outlook express as my newsreader. how do I find and
download the attachment you created for me? thanks meaginn

:

Meaginn,

Was just checking because its an API used in programming

The VB.NET code is:

Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices

<DllImport("Shell32.dll")> _
Private Shared Function SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon() As Int32
End Function

Then call the following code behind the button:

SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon()

The above code will change the icon to the default recycle bin icon
once empty

Attached to this post is a VB.NET application I wrote especially for
you that runs with the .NET Framework 1.1. You will see your name in
the help | about box & also when you right-click the application |
properties | version
comment

The application empties the recycle bin silently & no confirmation &
updates the icon

Feel free to distribute it but remember I own the copyright & you
need
the ..NET Framework 1.1 to run it

To download the file attached you need to be using Outlook Express as
your newsreader

The above will show you how to configure it so if you want you can

:

Wesley,

There are many ways to do this but sometimes creating a text doc
then deleting to recycle bin then deleting the recycle bin
sometimes
works, but another way is this:

Create a new Shortcut
Paste in this line:
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe
shell32.dll,SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon Click NEXT
Click FINISH

Now double-click the icon when the recycle bin is empty, which
should replace the recycle bin icon to the correct one

Please note: If this doesn't work then its because its a Win32 API
&
is used in programming, but the LockWorkstation function in the
User32.dll doesn't take any parameters & returns an Integer just
like this function so it should work This function is held within
the Shell32.dll

Please post back your findings

Cheers,

Meaginn,

Was just checking because its an API used in programming

The VB.NET code is:

Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices

<DllImport("Shell32.dll")> _
Private Shared Function SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon() As Int32
End Function

Then call the following code behind the button:

SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon()

The above code will change the icon to the default recycle bin icon
once empty

The application empties the recycle bin silently & no confirmation
&
updates the icon

Feel free to distribute it but remember I own the copyright & you
need
the ..NET Framework 1.1 to run it

To download the file attached you need to be using Outlook Express

Wesley,

There are many ways to do this but sometimes creating a text doc
then deleting to recycle bin then deleting the recycle bin
sometimes
works, but another way is this:

Create a new Shortcut
Paste in this line:
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe
shell32.dll,SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon Click NEXT
Click FINISH

Now double-click the icon when the recycle bin is empty, which
should replace the recycle bin icon to the correct one

Please note: If this doesn't work then its because its a Win32
API
&
is used in programming, but the LockWorkstation function in the
User32.dll doesn't take any parameters & returns an Integer just
like this function so it should work This function is held within
the Shell32.dll

Please post back your findings

Meaginn,

Attached (again) to this post is a VB.NET application I wrote especially for
you that runs with the .NET Framework 1.1. You will see your name in the
help | about box & also when you right-click the application | properties |
version | comment

The application empties the recycle bin silently & no confirmation & updates
the icon

Feel free to distribute it but remember I own the copyright & you need the
.NET Framework 1.1 to run it

You can always use the attachment to empty your recycle bin in future every
time you want to empty it. I use a program (which I wrote myself) that
cleans my entire computer in one button click & it contains exactly the same
code for emptying the recycle bin as the application I wrote for you.

To download the file attached you need to be using Outlook Express as your
newsreader

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/newsgroups/howto.mspx

The above will show you how to configure it so if you want you can download
the attachment I created especially for you

To subscribe to the newsgroup all you need to do is type (in Outlook Express
(CTRL + W)):

microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

You can do that by double-clicking it when you download a list of newsgroups

==================================

If the program don't work:

Either you have something like Norton protected recycle bin or your standard
icon has changed. Also, you could look in C drive with system files visible
(Tools | Folder Options | View | Hide Protected Operating Files (UNTICK
(ignore warning by clicking YES)), click APPLY, click OK. Now check
C:\Recycler\{CLSID HERE} for files then hide the protected system files
again

Also, you can right-click the Desktop | Properties | Effects
Click the empty bin icon & click the Default Icon button
Click Apply
Click Ok

Lastly. Not sure if that is your real e-mail address but you should spoof it
so not to get loads of SPAM. When you setup Outlook Express as your
newsreader make sure you add a bogus e-mail address
([email protected] for example or anything in a e-mail type format).

I hope this helps,

Why would anyone try this Newbie? No one knows who you are. No one
knows how well you're able to code anything! What if she tries it and
it screws up something? Are you going to pay for it? You even have a
few "IF" items listed, so how do you know there might not be other
things going on that could have an adverse effect?

You may have good intentions, and whatever you're offering may work.
BUT, you may NOT have good intentions, and whatever you're offering may
break something. It's a risk I don't think anyone should take.

And I've already seen you take offense when someone will refer a poster
to a website link for a fix, but it's not the same thing. If you had
all your offerings on a website for the world to see, you'd have to
prove the test of time until people trusted your work. But you can't
expect people to blindly accept a download by a stranger in a newsgroup,
regardless if their name is in the Help About dialog box.

Meaginn,

Was just checking because its an API used in programming

The VB.NET code is:

Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices

<DllImport("Shell32.dll")> _
Private Shared Function SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon() As Int32
End Function

Then call the following code behind the button:

SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon()

The above code will change the icon to the default recycle bin icon once
empty

Attached to this post is a VB.NET application I wrote especially for you
that runs with the .NET Framework 1.1. You will see your name in the
help | about box & also when you right-click the application |
properties | version
comment

The application empties the recycle bin silently & no confirmation &
updates the icon

Feel free to distribute it but remember I own the copyright & you need
the ..NET Framework 1.1 to run it

To download the file attached you need to be using Outlook Express as
your newsreader

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/newsgroups/howto.mspx

The above will show you how to configure it so if you want you can
download the attachment I created especially for you

I hope this helps,

the recycle bin icon stil shows as full. I thank you for your help I
just don't know what to do , I did as you said and nothing changed.
thanks

:

Wesley,

There are many ways to do this but sometimes creating a text doc then
deleting to recycle bin then deleting the recycle bin sometimes works,
but another way is this:

Create a new Shortcut
Paste in this line:
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon
Click NEXT
Click FINISH

Now double-click the icon when the recycle bin is empty, which should
replace the recycle bin icon to the correct one

Please note: If this doesn't work then its because its a Win32 API &
is used in programming, but the LockWorkstation function in the
User32.dll doesn't take any parameters & returns an Integer just like
this function so it should work This function is held within the
Shell32.dll

Please post back your findings

Cheers,

Chill out Newbie. I never mentioned you or made any statement about
believing the file was dangerous, nor am I interested in it. I will post
the same caution in future situations. Common sense wise one should not
download a file as an attachment from a post in a newsgroup, nor should one
download a file from an unknown web site, or one which does not have
credibility such as from an established author. Meaginn would be well
advised to take the advice, but of course she'll make that decision for
herself.

Have a good one.

Terry,

I am sincere actually & like I said to Rock:

What's the difference of me attaching here or posting it on the Internet?
Only, if I put it on the Internet as a download you'd trust it & by
attaching it here you wouldn't

I just like to go that extra bit further to help users instead of giving
them useless Google links because the person replying cannot be bothered to
really help. Besides, what's the point of being a programmer for 27 years if
you cannot use it to help others?

Before I forget: Has POBOX ceased spamming? Haven't seen POBOX spam for

See you in another post

I have just looked at the user's headers & see that the user isn't using IE
too

CDO (CDONTS) is an object for sending messages before the SYSTEM.NET...

Strange how you are so interested in the user's headers when your e-mail
address is 'comcast.net' which is responsible for a huge amount of SPAM each
day. Is this a coincidence, Wes?

I am using outlook express as my newsreader.
You're not using OE in this post.

Message header shows...
X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

OE would show up as...
X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express

the attachment you created for me? thanks meaginn

:

Meaginn,

Was just checking because its an API used in programming

The VB.NET code is:

Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices

<DllImport("Shell32.dll")> _
Private Shared Function SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon() As Int32
End Function

Then call the following code behind the button:

SHUpdateRecycleBinIcon()

The above code will change the icon to the default recycle bin icon
once
empty

Attached to this post is a VB.NET application I wrote especially for
you
that runs with the .NET Framework 1.1. You will see your name in the
help | about box & also when you right-click the application |
properties | version
comment
The application empties the recycle bin silently & no confirmation &
updates the icon

Feel free to distribute it but remember I own the copyright & you need
the ..NET Framework 1.1 to run it

To download the file attached you need to be using Outlook Express as
your newsreader

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/newsgroups/howto.mspx

The above will show you how to configure it so if you want you can
download the attachment I created especially for you

I hope this helps,

the recycle bin icon stil shows as full. I thank you for your help I
just don't know what to do , I did as you said and nothing changed.
thanks

:

Wesley,

There are many ways to do this but sometimes creating a text doc then
deleting to recycle bin then deleting the recycle bin sometimes
works,
but another way is this:

Cheers,

P.S. 4 mins ago from the time of my reply was the last reported SPAM
from COMCAST.NET, which I know you use

Try this first.

Right click the Desktop | Click Properties | Click the Desktop tab |
Click the Customize Desktop button | Click on the Recycle Bin (full)
icon

Click the Restore Default button | Scroll over to the right and
click
on the Recycle Bin (empty) icon | Click the Restore Default button

Restore Default button:
[[Click to use the Windows default icon for the selected desktop
item.]]

You may have to reboot, I have no idea.

If that doesn't work, go here...

Rock,

The file is 100% safe & uses the API to delete the contents of the recycle
bin

Would be uncanny if I uploaded this file on the net & you then linked
someone to it, wouldn't it? The only difference from doing that & attaching
it is I wrote it especially for Meaginn. You too can download & use if you
wish. Its there to do that if you wish & won't take offence if you don't

I am not in the habit of writing dangerous or malicious code at all. I am
gonna renew my code signing certificate & will sign all posted code soon.

I just like to go that extra bit further to help the user & because I do
have got a lot of private work around the world because of it

Take it easy Rock & go pounce on that use who posted 2 of the same post
earlier this evening

Meaginn, I would recommend against downloading and running a file sent by
someone as an attachment in a newsgroup. I would not send you a file that
way, but were I to do so I would still recommend you not accept it.

The difference is exactly what I explained to you. Read it again and
we'll talk more.

And offering Google links is FAR from "useless". I've seen you post
enough links, and where did you find them?

Regardless of your experience, NO ONE here knows you, nor can vouch for
you OR your work. It blows me away that someone would accept a program
from a stranger on the internet. They might as well be Google searching
for "how to infect my computer".

Your snide comments about things is pretty childish. I suggest you
stick to matters at hand.

Terry,

You made think they are snide but that's your opinion.

The 50 banks running my applications could vouch for me so could all the
other companies too that fly me out to sign software contracts. So, someone
like you that cannot code at all making smart comments on others isn't at
all childish, is it?

There are a few applications written or changed for people in the newsgroup
& they are well happy too.

Strange how people (MVP's included) answered one of the posts that it
couldn't be done. I looked into it, changed the code to meet the OP needs &
I still get messages thanking me for doing it because it was exactly what he
wanted :). So, it looks like you missed that post, doesn't it?

Like I said: See you in another post, Terence

Name isn't Terence, newb. Yet again another way to make yourself feel
big. Too bad it's only a feeling. And your little jabs about people
appears to be your way of building yourself up. Too bad you don't
appear to be as confident as your 27 years. Is that why you call
yourself "Newbie Coder"? That's confidence right there! And you again
puff yourself up by stating MVP's said it couldn't be done. WOW, and
Newbie did it! Pat Pat Pat on the back for you!

Oh, so we'll just run out and check those 50 banks, right? You seem to
miss the whole point because of your inherent need to prove yourself.
The point is this, REGARDLESS of what you say, you could be feeding
everyone a line of BS. Is that too hard for you to believe?

Let me try a little of your work...Do you need steps to get into your
raised 4x4? Does your 5'6" frame feel bigger in that BIG truck? THAT'S
the way your comments come off, as a little man. Want to be a real man?
Start by talking like one and respecting others.
