What does it mean when instead of a picture you can see you get an empty box
with a Red X in the upper left corner? How do you correct it to view the
picture?

It means that the image that fills that spot has either not been downloaded yet (in which case you
should be able to download it by right-clicking, and telling it to download), or that the attachment
has been blocked for some reason, or that it has been removed/deleted sometime after downloading.

In the latter two cases, it is likely you'll need to ask the sender for the files again.
