red x when saving auto-reply template in Out of Office Assistant

I have applied an auto-reply to all computers in our office and some are
having trouble saving the signature .jpg image in their template.

I go to Tools>Out of Office Assistant>Add Rule

- tick sent directly to me and tick copied to me

- tick reply with and click 'Template'

Opens a template in HTML format (ie. Format, HTML is ticked)

Load picture from signature option (or via insert>picture) and it comes up
correctly.

If I then click save it replaces the signature .jpg image with a red x.

I have tried renewing the profile, clearing the add-ins repairing outlook
through Add/Remove Programs, uninstalling our email saving program and
renaming advised files (extend.dat, outcmd.dat etc.) to .old and reopening.
None of these helped.

And your version of Outlook would be...?
Use Help-> About to report your exact version number.
 
Our firm-wide version is Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (11.8206.8202) SP3
