Red X over mapped drive when you initially boot up

Joseph J Toner III

When the pc boots up the mapped drive has a red x over it
until you click on it then it goes away. This causes a
major problem because we run a batch file on startup.
The batch file needs that mapped drive. The pc's that
are giving us problems all run xp pro connecting to a nt
4.0 server. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this or
why it's occurring?

Thanks

It is normal for a share to show this way when no
connection has been made to it.
Keep in mind that what you see is the drive mapping
for the account with which you have logged in.
This is not available during startup and a startup script
will be running, in the default case, as local system.
