XP has so many annoying things it isn't funny <sigh>. Even though I
have an excellent Windows Explorer replacement now so that I don't
have to deal with as many of them any more, so far, there one that is
currently being a bother. I have my desktop available as a toolbar on
my taskbar just like I did for years on my Win9X box. I access things
like the recycle bin through it for various things. In 9x, I'd only
see the filename so life was easy, but XP likes to complicate things
and I now get a full path and that's all I can see now most of the
time as the filename is obscured; that means that I have to minimize
and go to the recycle in when I want to restore a file or whenever I
need to be sure of the file I'm dealing with.
Since no matter what one does, XP isn't reliable in displaying
Explorer with your chosen attributes (name, type, size and date
modified only in my case, in details view) I can't get this to stick
which may be why I'm getting the full original file path. (Like I
_really_ need that!) <sigh> I'm sorry that my annoyance always shows
through but after 7 years of having a reliable and effortless system
to navigate, etc., in, the last 3 years have been aggravating because
the "superior" OS is so deficient in this regard, esp. now that I have
XP at home.
So if anyone knows how to fix this, pls advise. If there was a way to
replace XP's shell completely (like Calmira did Win3X), I'd go for it
in a heartbeat! But until I find such a thing, need to find
solutions.
TIA.
