Recycle Bin Icon on Desk Top:

Thank you Bill Eisenhamer for your reply and sharing how
to restore the icon once it's removed.

What I'm trying to accomplish is to REMOVE the Recycle
Bin Icon on my Desk Top.

Restoring it once I removed it was one of my questions
also.

Now,if someone could tell me how to REMOVE the icon. It
will be appreciated.

TweakUI for XP allows you to do this; it's just a checkbox. Search the
Microsoft website for "Powertoys."

Install TweakUI and Uncheck the Recycle Bin under the Desktop setting.

Sorry I did not catch that you wanted to put it on the
desktop. My fault there.

As the others have said, tweakui.

I do not see why you had trouble useing gpedit for this,
too. Once the Group Policy window opens, under User
Configuration>ADministrative Templates>Desktop There is
a policy to Remove Recycle Bin Icon from Desktop. Enable
this policy and you should be good to go. Of course this
looks to be user specific and will work on you machine
only. If you are part of a domain, then any other group
policy will overwrite your choice.

Now you have a couple of choices. Good luck.

I do not see why you had trouble useing gpedit for this,
too.

Probably he is running XP Home, which does not support gpedit.

As others say - Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have
installed XP SP1)
