Recycle Bin - Cannot Delete Folder

This looks like a virus or a trojan horse. When I try to empty (am not sure
what files are those) it says do you want to delete "Windows". When I say
"Yes" it gives me the following error message

Error Deleting File or Folder

"Cannot remove folder D@1: This operation is supported only when you are
connected to the server".

I googled and searched for any info, but could not find anything related to
this. Any info that I can be provided please.

Windows XP SP2
McAfee Internet Security is installed
Windows Defender is also installed

I am not sure when this started but just couple of days back and am not sure
what site I would have visited for me to have this. I keep scanning my
system for spyware, adwares and trojans and try deleting it. But, this is
something I am kinda stumped.

where is the original file located. what is the path of the folder that
it is in.

try to start the computer in safe mode and see if you can delete it
then.

this is just an oppinion. instead of using McAfee try to use blackice
firewall. it works much better because it scans the whole computer and
if there are any external .exe files it will display a warning. most
other firewalls dont have 'application protection'
 
Not a a virus or a trojan horse This is a common problem.

I have seen this myself on my machine.

Makes you stop and think when you see that message, doesn't it? ;-)

You probably have a damaged/corrupted file in the Recycle Bin.

Run Error Checking | Reboot | Try to empty the Recycle Bin again.

1. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, right-click the volume you want to
check, and then click Properties.
2. On the Tools tab, click Check Now.
3. Select both of these:

o Automatically fix file system errors
o Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors

You have to reboot for Error-checking to run.

For a peek at the chkdisk log.
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | OK
Look in Application | Listed as Information
under Winlogon, Event 1001

Thanks for your reply. Here is the response to your questions

1. I cannot locate where the files reside
2. I did try the computer in SAFE MODE and tried deleting it, but did not
help.

I have not tried blackice firewall. Any other thoughts?

A Google search of that file name turned up nothing.

I would run a complete virus scan, and also look for malware using Adaware
and Spybot Search and Destroy.
 
UPDATE your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

UPDATE whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.
