Recycle bin bug question...

My recycle bin is not working properly--when I delete files, they do not
appear in the recycle bin. The option "Do not move files ot the Recycle Bin.
Remove files immediately when deleted" is NOT selected but this is the
behavior it exhibits. Deleting files from anywhere in the system results in
a permanent deletion, not a move to the recycle bin. I need to protect users
on this system from themselves.

If your using NTFS you should check the security settings for the Recycle
folder properties.

Check for a stuck <shift> key, as shift+delete will bypass the recycle bin.
Rapping on them to loosen them up may help.

In many cases, if the Recycle Bin IS enabled, it is just a case of a corrupted file. The
easy fix is: Delete any file. Then, with the Recycle Bin CLOSED, right click the Recycle
Bin icon on the Windows Desktop, then left click: Empty Recycle Bin. Then reboot. All
subsequent deleted files should now list in the Recycle Bin. The above is predicated on
the fact that you do not have a Norton Protected Recycle Bin or any other third party
product installed that alters the function of the Recycle Bin.

As far as the NTFS properties are concerned, are these different from the
right-click properties or are they enumerated and modified in a different
location?

The <Shift> key is not stuck but I did check for its pertinence to this
issue. Thank you for your reply.

Right-clicking on the Recycle Bin yields a disabled (grayed-out) option to
empty the Recycle Bin as it is already empty.
