Recurring meetings with reminder duplicates hundreds of times

When I add recurring meetings (recurring yearly since they are actually
birthdays) and add reminders, I get hundreds of meetings on that day, all
saying for exampel Linda's Birthday.

Why is this? How can I do this without having this problem? Is there a fast
way of deleting all these extra meetings?

Display your calendar (always include your version of Outlook when posting a question) in a table view. I would select events, then find and delete the extra events.
