Reoccurring error

Keep getting an error message that has no message on it except for a large
red/ white circular “X†and an “OK†button and a windows emblem in the upper
left hand corner and a close button in upper right hand corner. The message
itself is pretty small.
Each time I close this error message it reappears a few seconds later with
the “critical stop†sound.
The error stops running if I connect to the Internet. Suspect IE 6.0.
Running Windows 2000 updated.
What’s the story?
