My computer goes into the safe mode option screen when booting, then wont
boot, just restarts and returns to that screen..

I put in the XP cd, and when I hit R for recovery, it just goes to the C:\
prompt.. What do I do to fix this???

Thanks!!
Derek

Hi Derek

Access the same screen where the Safe Mode option is and try 'Last Known
Good Configuration'. Failing that you may have to look towards a 'Repair'
install of XP. The following article by Michael Stevens will help:

"How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install"
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

I tried the recovery, but instead of recovery bringing you to c:/windows, it
just brings me to c:/ and thats it.. i tried boodcfg /scan and it does say
it found errors.. Any ideas??? I don't want to lose my documents!

Hi

It seems as though you have pressed the first 'R'. You don't need to use
that one. Press Enter at that screen, then a bit later you will be given
the option to press 'R' again - use that one instead. Michael Stevens'
article describes that particular option very well.

Thanks Will..

That worked great!! You saved me a ton of time and headache!!!
