Recovery of a file being overwritten

I have just tried to replace a file and part way through,
the replace failed with a Network error. When I try to
read the file, I was trying to replace, it is unreadable.
Is there another copy of this file that XP keeps in case
of this type of failure and if so how do I get access to
it?
 
That rather depends on what kind of file it was. Did you try System Restore
to go back to a point earlier in time before the error occurred... this will
only work if it's a system file. Not if it's a document or similar.
