I have been unable to boot up my XP. WhenI boot from the
XP disk, setup will not reinstall without formatting my C
drive. I am keeping that option as my last resort. I
want to use the Recovery Console, but do not know what to
type at the C:/

What should I type at the C:/ promp?

Not much. As you are only at C it means it's so damaged that you can't
logon. That means you can't access your files either (and you can't anyway
unless you told the recovery console in XP when it was working that you
would want to).

You can basically check your disk or format it. Type help for the full list
of commands. Type command name /? for help on that command. Try chkdsk.
