i could not boot up my computer because of a missing or corrupt file: ...system32\hal.dll. to try and get round this, i booted up using the xp cd and ran the recovery console. i was hoping to be able to expand the file off the cd so used the following command at the system prompt (my cd drive is e)
expand e:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dl
instead of successfully expanding the file, i got the message
unable to create fil
0 file(s) expande
why am i unable to expand this file and how do i get round the problem? please help cause i can't use my computer!
