Recovery : can't boot from out-of-date cd-rom

I have a Sony notebook that has developed the infamous mup.sys problem.

I want to get into recovery console to try and fix it, but it is refusing to
accept my administrator password (actually blank). This looks like the known
problem with the recovery console on OEM systems described in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308402/.

The suggested solution for my configuration is to download the updated
windows setup boot disks http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994/. These
setup disks are actually designed for people who can't boot from a cd-rom,
but apparently contain the fix for the OEM console problem.
The problem is: I don't have a floppy drive. I *can* boot from my CD-ROM,
it's just that my setup CD is old and has the bug.

Any ideas on how I can create a bootable CD-ROM from the setup boot disks?
Or any other suggestions!?
