Recovering Password Protected Private Folder

Hello ppl. I have a problem. My HD broke down and doesn't boot for
some reason so i took it to a friend's house and put it as slave in
his PC, only I can't access my documents because i made the folder
private with my user account and now I get an access denied error
everytime I try to open my documents. Is there any way around this or
are my files doomed ?
