Recovering old e-mails after upgrade to XP

I seem to remember that it's possible to recover old e-
mails after doing a upgrade to XP (i.e. over the top of
an earlier OS). Something to do with XP's file
sstructure whcih make it look as if the old e-mails are
lost.

Can anyone confirm if I'm right and how to 'import' those
messages back into OE?
