Recovering HD Space

I current have a 20 gig HD, with 12 gig used and 8 gig
free.
The problem I have is I estimate about 8 gig is actually
taken up by files and I can't account for 4 gig?
Is there anything I can do to try to recover the 4 gigs?

It's not a question of "recovering" disk space - it's a question
of finding out what you stored on your disk, and where. Try
