recovering Favorites menu

Again, I have somehow managed to lose my favorites menu including bookmarks and folders with bookmarks. Is there anyway to recover these?

The favorites are files and folders in a Favorites folder. Yours may
have been misplaced.
See if the old Favorites folder can be found and copy the contents to
the new folder.
An alternative is to alter the Registry entry back (if you are
reasonably proficient with Regedit).
You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

I am not proficient with regedit, but i have been there and can follow instructions well. Any ideas on where to look for the old folder?

No, I have no idea where it is but a search for Favorites will tell
you.
Looking in Regedit will also tell you.
