Recover with ASR

Yuri

I am trying to recover my computer (which would not boot
up) using previously prepared ASR discette.
In MS Help there is a topic on how to do that. The topic
states:
Press F2 when prompted during the text-only mode section
of Setup. You will be prompted to insert the ASR floppy
disk you have previously created.

There is NO F2 option on the text-only screen!!!
Anybody knows what to do?

Thanks,
Yuri

When you boot from the XP pro cd there is a line on the bottom of the screen "press F2 to run ASR".

Not sure about XP home but ASR is not supported in the home version; Backup Utility to Back Up Files and Folders in Windows XP Home Edition http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320820

If you boot with the Windows XP Pro CD in your drive,
during the first text based screen you encounter (blue
background) you will see a message in the lower left
corner. It briefly says 'Press F6 if you need to install
a RAID or 3rd party driver' (or similar). Then it changes
and the next prompt says 'Press F2 for Automated System
Recovery'. This message is only displayed briefly.
You'll know if you've pressed it in time because the next
message will say 'Beginning Automated System Recovery'. I
hope that's helpful.

Doctor Jekyl.

My experience with ASR is that it asks for a rescue floppy.
To create one required enough floppies for almost the whole C: drive.
Seems typically useless Microsoft backup system.
It is far easier to use Registry Backup:

And a damn site more effecive than any Microsoft fixes.
