recover overwritten word document

I accidentally overwrote a document with the incorrect file. I found an
older Temp file but it is several days old and does not contain many of the
revisions I have done. I did not have "backup" on, just autorecovery. It may
have happened during one such Auto recovery event. Is there some way to
"undo" days backwards...to try to find the correct file. Why is there only a
temp file from days ago? Why not every day I was working on the file?

That there was any temp file at all is just a matter of luck. Word has
several features for protecting you against accidents, but temp files is not
one of them. You can turn on back ups, and/or you can use Word's versioning
feature (assuming you're not using Word 2007). If you're not using either of
those features, you're basically out of luck, unless you want to hire
somebody to try to recover files from you hard drive.
