Recover Deleted Items...

Outlook 2003; Exchange Server 2003; Unicode archive.PST.

Today I was looking for a way to restore some deleted items from the
Deleted Items folder to the folder of origin. Clicked on Tools, Recover
Deleted Items - which showed hundreds of items, whereas the D.I. folder
contained just a few; and these were not even amongst them.

Now I am just curious: what are these items in the Recover Deleted Items
list? They are not in D.I. on the Exchange Server, not on the archive.PST

Aloha Pat,

Your Exchange server has Deleted Item Recovery turned on. It archives items
from Deleted Items so that they can be recovered even after Deleted Items
is emptied. For a finite amount of time, of course.

Thanks, Ben! So many years with Outlook and Exchange Server, and I
didn't even know that such a feature existed.

And you are right - I can only see items about two weeks back. Good to know!

Aloha Pat,

Your Exchange Admin can configure that to be however long you like. I think
the default is 30 days if I recall correctly.
