Hi there to all,

I was not arround here for some time, but Congratulations..!
I have solved my problem By the Grace Of Almighty and with your help.

Thanx for all the help and info provided by all of you.
Below are the actions and Results. May this could help you Or others as well.

I down loaded a DEMO version of "active@partition recovery" software from
partition-recovery.com,( I don't know how to insert a link here :)) , Scaned
the drive with it, and note down all the info it provided.

Later I used this info to modify Partiton table combine with Power Quest
Ptedit.exe and some common sense.
I used it only to edit Primary partiton table and not the *EPBR* with in
the Extended Partition, because when I edit the Extended Partition info on
partiton table and recovered it, and since *EPBRs* and *Boot sectors* for all
logical volums were intact, so all the logical drives were automatically
recovered. and fortunaltly all the data was intact too.

Finally...! I have only one problem unsolved with this, and since I have
grabbed all my data back, this is only to know WHATs and WHYs.

I know there is a physical/surcface problem with my c: Partiton, which
scandisk OR chkdsk refused to fix. I can still access it in win98 with or
without GUI. Win98 sees it a normal fat32 drive and reports full and free
space normally.
But when access with winXP sp2 OR Recovery console, It assume it as an
unformated drive with out any more info. Even if win XP sp2 setup sees it as
fat32, and display its total capacity correctly, it doesn't show its free
space info at all.

PM8 treats it like winXP sp2 setup treats it, and further displays "ERROR
45" (CRC ERROR), if I use built in checking utility.

If any one has an idea, tell me. If I found a solution I'll try to post it
here.

Thanx again to all the people for all the help and info provided here.

Good Luck to all and take care.

If you've got the data off it you can delete and recreate the partition. XP
can probably do this if primary boot partition but 98's FDisk won't. Then do
a surface scan (chkdsk /r in NT/XP and Scandisk in 98). Can't remember the
option for scandisk - jsut type scandisk /?. If bad sectors replace the
drive.

Thanx "Jason"

I know it, and I could have done it. but as I've mentiond priviously that,
this is only to know WHATs and WHYs.

Why Winxp is unable to access the partition while win98 can detect and
access it properly?

I hope some one has the answer.

cheers.

Hi,
I wasn't here, because I had to complete all my work which was due during
all this mess, but...! Interesting.., I posted the Question and Its me who is
posting the answer.
First Thanks to ALMIGHTY Who always guides us to the right path.
and offcourse thanx to all of you people who helped me OR tried to help me
to solve my problem. Now I have solved my problem, and below are actions I
took to solve it. Infact I had solved it weeks before, but I was busy so
posting it now.

Problem was corrupted *BOOT SECTOR*. I used *SPINRITE 6.0* to recover it.
The software suggested that if this is a Boot Sector or Fat entry I should
reformat the Partition, which I didn't want to. So I *Set Active* My
partition and tried to Boot, It didn't. Then I used Recovery console
*FixMBR*, It some what worked, As Boot sequence started but with an immediate
*General Protection Error*.
I tried *FIXBOOT*, but nothing changed. then I replaced *NTLDR* from WINXP
CDROM and booted off from hard disk with out any problem. In this perticular
case I did not lose Even a Bit.
In the end I must appreciate Steve Gibson for making such a Remarkable tool.
I had heared about it for years But used it Now and found it according to
its reputation.

Good Bye to every one and cheers.
