Recording Volume

On my previous computers, double clicking on the volume control in the
systray opens the volume control. clicking then on Options -> Properties
allows me to click the radio button for "Recording Control"

Clicking OK changes the volume control panel to recording control, where i
can select diffreent input sources for programs (Cool Edit im using) to
record from.

In the past there has been an option called 'Mixer' i believe, that records
sound directly from whatever is being output. all i get now is:
Line in
Rear MIC
Microphone

How do i get Mixer up? =(

Using Windows MCE, im thinking thia may be a sound card thing, so in
'dxdiag' it tells me (under Sound1) SigmaTel Audio, Device:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01VEN_8384DEV_768etc etc etc
I checked up on the SigmaTel site, and aparently they dont manufacture sound
cards :S

In the system -> Device manager -> sound.vid & game controllers, i dont
appear to even HAVE a siound card, only a load of drivers and CODEC's :s
(SigmaTel High Def Audio CODEC among others)

Any suggestions anyone? =)

It's not a Sound Card, but a dedicated Chip on the motherboard that
provides the new High Definition Audio Standard. Codec is a device
that provides Coding/Decoding of signals. Your PC vendor should
have a driver package for the SigmaTel audio sub-system. I have a
Sony notebook that uses the SigmaTel HD Codec and they provide
a driver package (~5.5 Megabytes).

At this point, there should ALSO be a scrollable list:

"Show the Following Volume Controls"

Make sure "Wave Out Mix" is selected.

That's the Recording input that allows you
to record whatever sound(s) the system is
producing - in effect a loop-back of the Line Out
jack.

If you don't have a "Wave Out Mix" or something
similar, it hasn't been implemented in your onboard
sound hardware.
