recording onto my computer

Hello, I've recently discovered that I can make videos on my computer with
the Windows Movie Maker program. I would, however, like to know how I can
record songs directly onto the computer, using just the built-in microphone,
WITHOUT using WMM, so I can share with friends and family!

Help!

Download Audacity and Lame mp3 (Google, you'll find them), they are free.

Read the Audacity tutorials.

If freeware Audacity seems too difficult, I recommend Magix
software (Audio Cleaning Lab or MP3 Maker.)
 
Hard to find.

Aren't they all just another way of using the basic Windows Media Player.?
Late versions. Perhaps with some refinements.?
A WMP add-on called Plus.
