recording music

I'd like to record music to the hard drive from tape cassettes and CDs and
then download it to a portable MP3 player or copy it to a CD.

Please tell me how to do this.

Just to add to Carey's response, you do need third party software to
accomplish this and "Plus Digital Media Edition" can do it but if you have
an XP compatible version of Easy CD Creator, it has a module that can do it
as well and there are others.

As far as tape cassettes are concerned, assuming the cassette player is
connect to an amplifier, you'll need to cable from the output on the
amplifier and to the line in on your soundcard. Any Radio Shack can show
you how to do it and supply the necessary cables.
