recording from line in

If I plug in a tape player to the line in, can I record
music from that? If so, then how.

Get the "Sound Recorder"

Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>SoundRecorder

The Sound Recorder will provide you with a simple way to
record from a tape recorder to a *.WAV file.

The Sound Record records the 1st minuite then stops. If
you hit record again, it will record for another minute.
You don't have to have the tape recorder going at this
time. You are simply creating a file with enough time to
hold your recordin. Once you have enough time, Save the
file as either Model to be used to record into, then Use
SAVE AS to save under a new name.

Then the nex time you can use the model. When you are
recording from the tape recorder, the tape should end
before the time runs out for the file. Hit stop on the
Sound Recorder, and use the EDIT option to end the file
at this point.

Save or Save As. You can now use the Sound Record to
open the file, the play it.

I am curretnly looking into ways to put the information
to a file so Windows Media Player and play it. Also to
record is on a Music CD so that I can play it in my Car's
CD.

Yes, but you'll need some software - Goldwave does the job nicely
(http://www.goldwave.com ). You can also use it to edit out tape hiss and
then normalise the sound of all your tracks before burning. Don't use Sound
Recorder from XP, its naff and will only record for 1 minute.

Just use Audacity; it doesn't require you to jump through hoops to use it. You
can also edit the audio when you are finished recording. Get it FREE at
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
