when I insert an image into FP 2000 the first time it automatically reduces
quality to 75%.

Can i change default (to 100% for example)

Otherwise i always have to manually change

No, but FP2003 has this feature.

BTW, compared to 100%, a quality of 90% will usually save
a *lot* of download bytes with very little picture
degradation.

If you import the image into your web first, then insert it into a page, it
will not be shrunk.

If you first import the image into your current open FP web, prior to using
it, then FP will not change the quality, however FP will still show the
quality setting a 75% under image properties.

The 75% will only come into play if you allow FP to save the image, which
happen only when you have not imported the image, and FP prompts you to save
embed files.
