recomendations for tranfering VHS to CD

My wife has MANY old VHS movies.
Which program/hardware combo do you recommend for transferring these?
Wife's computer is high end XP system, lots of memory and mucho hard disk
space.

of your VHS home movies...you don't need
a computer. A DVD Recorder may be worth
a look.
