Reclaim licenses

B

Billy Hossain

Hi, I have Windows 2000 Server and Terminal Server
services running into this Server. Also I have install 35
client linceses. My Network running in mix mode ( Win NT,
XP). Recently I have found that licensing Server has
issused twice licenses to some of my NT machines and I
ran out of licenses. I can not delete clients from the
Terminal server licensing. How can I reclaim licenses or
delete machines from Terminal Server licensing. Please
help.

Thanks

You can't, and it shouldn't be necessary either.

If your TS CALs where installed on the TS Licensing server *after*
installing SP3 (or at least SP3 + the post-SP3 Licensing
Enhancement hotfix), all TS CALs have an expiration date. That
means that a license which has not been used (a PC has not made a
connection to the TS) during a period of 52-89 days, will
automatically be returned to the Licensing server and become
available for another client. In thew meantime, the new client
will receive a temporary license, which is valid for 90 days. So
before the temporary license on the new client expires, the old
license becomes available again.

If you find that new clients temporary licenses expire before any
old licenses are returned to the LS, it simply means that you
have, at least during some time, connected more clients than you
have TS CALs and you need to buy more.

If you installed the TS CALs *before* the LS got SP3, then the
licenses have no expiration date and are permanently issued to a
specific client. You can delete the license from the client, but
you will have to phone the Clearinghouse to get your license re-
issued.

You're not my customer, Karl, I'm just an end-user, like you.
And the answer to your question can be found in the FAQ that I
gave a link to:

From

<quote>
Q. What methods does the license server use to communicate with
the Microsoft Clearinghouse?
A. Telephone. You can contact a customer service center by calling
a phone number provided by the licensing wizard
</quote>

Just use Telephone as the Connection method in the Licensing
wizard.
