as usual the refer to the faq page rather than bothering to answer the
question. if you have a look at the faq and the recommended modems link the
page is redirected to http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/ which is not useful.

please answer the question

The answer -- as explained in the FAQ -- is that "Unfortunately, Windows XP Fax
has proven to be incompatible with many common modems and drivers, particularly
older ones, even if the manufacturers claim they are "compatible" with Windows
XP. Although inclusion on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) is not a
guarantee that the modem will be suitable for use with Windows XP Fax Service, it
is still the best resource to choose one from."

Since the FAQ was written, MS replaced the Hardware Compatibility List with the
"developed for Windows XP" logo that appears on various items in the "Windows
Marketplace." I can tell you from personal experience that my
less-than-one-year-old fax modem -- which does have the XP seal of approval --
sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Because virtually all of the incoming
faxes that fail are "junk faxes" (more annoying than email spam), I don't care.

The bottom line is that MS appears to have made a business decision to phase out
fax support. If you can't get Windows XP faxing to work reliably enough for your
purposes, get a standalone fax machine. Staples has inkjet (B&W or color) fax
machines from $60 to $170 (http://tinyurl.com/k5cwn) and laser fax machines from
$130 to $1000 (http://tinyurl.com/pkuqn). If you don't have enough physical
space for both a fax and a printer, consider getting one of those "all in one"
models.

That is the only answer there is and Lem restated it perfectly.
If you really want, I can send you the instructions for logging fax
transmissions and then you can find someone at Microsoft who will interpret
the logs for you. The answer will likely be the same: Your modem won't work
with Windows XP Fax.

Hi Nick, have you configured the fax app. to receive faxes correctly? ie.
did you use the Fax Configuration Wizard?
BTW. Where did you get your fax number and/or TSID number from if you did
indeed use the FC Wizard for sending and receiving?
Thanks and Regards,
Peter
