receiving e-mail in HTML format

When I receive e-mails that contain pictures (not attachments) in them, I get
a clear box with a red X in it instead. I am running Outlook 2000 on a
Windows ME operating system. I discovered how to send e-mails in HTML format
so the pictures show, but how do I receive e-mails so that the pictures will
show?

Are these images linked to a web site or another location that might not be
currently accessible by you?
Test the functionality yourself by sending yourself an email with an
embedded image from your local drive.
