Receiving "Command line argument not valid" message

I use Outlook 2000 within the Office 2000 Suite. For some time now I have
been unable to click on to embedded email links within emails or websites.
When I do, I receive the message: "The command line argument is not valid.
Verify the switch you are using."

Go into Internet Explorer's options area > programs tab > and switch the
default mail handler to Outlook Express > select Apply > and then switch it
back to Microsoft Outlook > Apply > OK button. Now try mailto links in
items/webpages.

ps - the steps above force a rewrite of the registry keys that handle
mailto: links.
