This newsgroup deals mainly with Windows Mail issues.
You did not say which email program you are using.
It can't be Windows Mail because WM does not accommodate Hotmail
accounts.
If you are using Windows Live Mail, you will get more help in the
newsgroup for that particular program:
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Hi, I'm using windows mail and got that error note, the full note is: An
unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server:
'pop.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error
Number: 0x80004005 I have no idea what that means and couldn't find it
anywhere on "truble shooting"
Please help, anyone?

I had this exact same problem myself earlier this week.
Apparently AT&T/Yahoo did something that corrupted mail on the
server, because there have been quite a few people reporting
this problem.

Go to http://mail.yahoo.com and log in with your AT&T credentials.
Then clean out all the folders in your webmail. If you want to save
any messages, create a new folder and move those messages to the
new folder. Empty the thrash also. Close webmail, then try Windows
Mail again.

I have the same issue. I am not talking about hotmail. I have 6 accounts, all
of which are on different servers. I go into my webmail, delete all emails,
then try, same thing. As my emails are stored on the server for other
computers to pull the same emails. This issue is only cleared when all emails
are deleted from server, yet when 1 email is left on server, error pops up
again.

This error showed up in Outlook Express with XP, ya would think MS would
have fixed it by now, but looks like not.

Any help would be much appreciated.

That problem is not due to anything the email program is doing
or not doing. It is caused by corruption on the server.

Thanks for the fast reply.
I kind of disagree. I am talking about more then 1 account on totally
different servers. Also on one laptop, it works completely fine, on another
it doesnt. The 1 test laptop I newly installed Win XP = no problems. I
installed Vista on another in my lab= problems. Windows Mail is having the
issue. If it were not the software why are some persons saying install the
new software, which sucks?

That error message is relatively rare. If it was a bug in Windows Mail,
it would be more common.
All I can tell you is that on previous occasions that problem was cured
by deleting all the emails on the server.
It sounds like you are experiencing a different version of the 0x80004005
error. I have no suggestions except to try an upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

Thanks, I hate Windows Live Mail, so will just live with the error. Hoping
Microsoft will get smart enough to fix it someday. Just as other errors we
all know that wont happen very fast :p

G

Microsoft will not fix anything in Windows Mail since it is considered
a dead product.

Oh, darn, hehe. Figures they kill one product that works and bring on junk
like Live. Oh well at least Netscape has a better mail product :p And it
works.
