Rebooting Problems - Fresh XP Install

Hello,

I'm having quite an anoying proglem with my system and I'm
hoping that someone can help. Here is a little history.

I was running a Celeron 800Mhz PC and decided it was time
to upgrade so I went down to the local show and picked up
a Asus a7n8x Mb, 512 Ram and an Athalon 2500+ processor.
HAd them slap it into a case and took it home. When I got
home I inserted the HDD from my old PC and booted. Of
course it didn't work.

I spoke to the guy at the PC shop and he told me (of
course) that it wouldn't recognize the new chipset so a
repair install might work. With everything backed up I
tried that to no avail. I could get into windows but it
would never run for more than 4 minutes and would BSOD on
me or reboot.

Finally got frustrated, reformated and started fresh on
NTFS. Clean Install.

Booted, same issues. I have turned of the reboot on error
so I could see the messages. The errors are promarily:

Stopped: 0x0000008E

Also some reporta a problem with Win32K.sys

I thought perhaps video so we have the lates drivers for
the Gforce onboard video and still same issue.

Anyone know whats up? I'm kinda baffled.

Thanx,

RS

It is always hard to know the cause of a stop error. They are often
caused by bad drivers however I suspect since you started with out of
box drivers that this is a hardware problem. You said the errors are
usually a stop 0x0000008e. Do you get other stop errors? If you get 3 or
more different stop errors then it is almost always a hardware problem.
I would start with memory first.
