What are the benefits of answering people questons in this forum? Is it free
advertising, personal satisfaction, learning, microsoft recognition? Just
curious, because I would like to start answering questions and possibly
recieve some sort of credit to my name.

Thanks,
Ryan

I've just got a benevolent streak. And I used to use the forums to get
answers so I know how useful it is for a newbie

The best reason is because you want to do it. If you are waiting for a trophy
or a gold star of some sort the wait will be a long one. As you answer
questions some people will click the button that your post was helpful and a
check mark will appear beside the response. If you get enough check marks you
will get a gold silver or bronze medal next to your name. Eventually you
might even become an MVP at which point Microsoft recognizes you as one of
the best.

I answer question because it is a great learning experience. If you want to
be good at XL hang out here for a few years anwering questions and after a
few thousand posts you will hold your own with the best of them.

Because it is (can be) fun, and you keep aware of what is going on to an
extent.

Depending upon the responder, all or any of the above could apply.

Since you're using the CDO Interface, there is provision made for responders to
rate your replies so's you get credit if that's what you need.

I started using the news groups to get help with Excel problems. After a period
of time I felt confident enough to answer a few and it just grew from there.

The learning and personal satisfaction are my priorities.

If your goal is to become an MVP see this website.

because i like to try to help (even tho i don't always succeed!) & it
helps me to learn, both from my attempts at helping & at others'
responses to the same question.

What is the COD Interface?

So I can anwer questions and after a certain number of questions have been
answered, I get a nice little symbol by my name? Sweet!

Is MVP status or anyother status useful on a Resume?

Thanks

CDO Interface is the discussions.microsoft.com site.

I don't use that site for posting and replying.

I use Agent news reader.

You could use Outlook Express as a news reader if you choose.
