Rearranging jpegs

I have a directory of about 350 .jpeg files. I also have a separate software
that I would like to do my slideshows in and produce VCDs. My problem is
when I select the files and import them into the software they are arranged
alphabetical. I would like to rearrange them chronological. My software will
move images but it simply takes forever. Perhaps there is a software program
where the images can be placed in a template and then renamed. Or perhaps,
I'm looking at this issue all wrong. Any help would be appreciated. BTY, my
OS is XP Pro.

Open the folder with your images
Arrange the images in the order you want.
Select all images
Right click the first image select rename
This will rename all images in the order you placed them.

I believe the batch renaming was added with Windows XP
