Reapplying updates

I remeber reading something about this 4 or 5 years ago and just need some
refreshing!

I have a Windows 2000 server all up to date (SP4 etc). I want to now install
IIS using the original Windows 2000 CD which does not include any services
packs, how do I know what updates I need to apply afterwards.

If re-apply SP4 that would over-write any updates I had done after
originally applying SP4 thus requiring me to perform all those updates again?

Would it be enough to run SP4 then check the windows update web site, or
would I need to manually re-apply all updates since SP4.

Also in general, if I am required to pull files from a Windows 2000 CD that
has no Service Packs included am I required to reapply SP4 (and the rest)
every time?
