really long reboot

J

John Cleveland

We have a W2K3 server running as a DC. The other day there was a power
outage and the server rebooted. Since then, rebooting the server takes
about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours to reboot. It seems to hang on the "Applying
Cmputer Settings" screen and then eventually the logon window appears.
After logging on, the "Applying Computer Settings" screen seems to hang
again. But if we leave everything alone and let the server run its course,
we eventually get the desktop. I have looked through the system event logs
and find nothing out of the ordinary. Just information type logs describing
that services have started or recovered. Any thoughts on how to approach
this?

Try enabling Userenv logging. This should show where in the logon
process the delay is occuring. Just look for the gaps in time.
