Readyboost cache not being created

T

Tim

There have been messages on some other forums about readyboost caches
disappearing shortly after being created. I have a similar problem. The
cache is not disappearing, but it is not getting created upon bringing the
computer out of sleep mode. The flash drive is still connected, and
readyboost is enabled, there's just no cache file. If I go to the
readyboost properties for the flash drive and click OK, it will then get
created. Has anyone else had problems like this? I'm using RC2.

This can happen if the performance of the device falls below 2.5MB/sec
throughput for 4K random reads and 1.75MB/sec throughput for 512K random
writes.

It can also happen if the drive goes into any type of sleep mode.

I've not run into any issues with my 512 MB SANDisk key in RTM.

My Sandisk 1 gig Mini works fine also.

Mine is a Sandisk Cruzer 1gb. I never get any error messages, and it
appears to be somewhat random - sometimes the cache file gets created,
sometimes not. If I look at the event log, I always get the following 3
events upon resuming from sleep:

Caching was enabled for device (\Device\HarddiskVolume1).
Caching was enabled for device (\Device\HarddiskVolume2).
Caching was enabled for device (\Device\HarddiskVolume3).

I assume I get 3 of these because I have 3 hard drives in my computer. I
get the following event if the cache is created; if it's not created, this
event never happens, and I get no error message:

A ReadyBoost cache was successfully created on the device (SanDisk U3 Cruzer
Micro) of size 870 MB.

Since I never get any error messages, I'm wondering if other people aren't
experiencing this too, but just don't realize it.

Tim,
U3 huh?
that may have something to do with it.
not fully versed in it, but I know U3 itself; isn't recognized by Vista. the
actual U3 system that is.
the Sandisk itself will work normal, but that U3 system might have something
to do with it.
As a side note, around me; retail stores are dumpin those U3 drives; theyre
offloading them real cheap.
dirt cheap, and regular Sandisk drives are more expensive then those U3
micro ones now, around me.

That may be the case, but you'd think that Vista wouldn't have "approved" it
for use in the first place if it wasn't going to work right. Perhaps
Microsoft has some tweaking to do on the compatibility issues.

Oh, now I understand what U3 is. I deleted that stuff when I got the drive.
So that's obviously not the problem.

from a stand point of portability and privacy, U3 is really cool. if you
want to take your e-mail and others apps with you anywhere, but you don't
have a laptop that you can take everywhere, it works out nicely. it also
leaves no tracks, so you can use it on computers that you're not supposed
to.

It leaves tracks. I will always be able to tell if you, or someone else,
have plugged in a S3 thumb drive into my computer. I will not be able to
access information necessarily about what you have done when once it is
connected.
