Readyboost cache randomly clearing

To all,

I have been watching my readyboost cache amounts though the system and
reliability monitor and have noticed what I consider a problem. Every so
often the entire cache is cleared (It had just filled the 4 gb and it
cleared the entire set). On any fill other than the primary, Readyboost
will use less than a gigabyte. Currently my computer is only using 0.3 GB
of the stated 4 GB capacity. Has anyone else noticed these peculiarities?

I have "use 3850 MB" selected in the readyboost control panel.

I am using a SanDisk Micro 512MB for ReadyBoost and also notice that it
often seems to "go too sleep" once in a while - and then there is no cache
to be found.
