Reading Pane

How do I turn off the reading pane by default for an automated deployment?

I know the standard answer is you can't.

But I'm wondering if anyone else is like me and likes to find the hacks or
work around to make something work.

I mean obviously Outlook is storing this information somewhere because when
you set it in the gui it remembers it everytime you run outlook after that.
So what is it changing? I've looked hard. Is it a registry key? I can't
really find one, although there is some movement in a couple of them when
you turn the pane on or off. Is it something that a dll is invoking? Is it
stored in a file someplace? I see very little movement there either.

Anyway, I also know about the switch to turn it off when launching outlook,
but I don't want to create a custom shortcut for users that turns it off
everytime. I want them to get it turned off to start with and then allow
them to turn it on if they would like.

Not sure why Microsoft would make it so hard to specify this by not giving
us a group policy we can set.

Thanks,
Terry
